Tutorial Tuesday: Stamped Christmas Ornament

Welcome to today’s Tuesday Tutorial. As you know this month we are sharing some holiday inspiration so you can get an early start on those cards, gifts and decorations. Today I am showing you how to turn a one dollar paper mache ornament from the craft store into a beautiful piece for your tree or as a gift.

Supplies Needed:
Catelynne Paper Stack
Joy and Peace Stamp Set
Beauty of A Woman Stamp
Angelee & Natalee Ribbon
Cognac Palette Ink
Beaux Arts Blue Palette Ink
Black ink
1/4th inch corded ribbon
Gesso
Acrylic paint
Embellishments

1. Gather supplies.  Rip little pieces of paper

2. Randomly place torn paper on top of ornament and glue down.
Repeat on back side.

3. Gesso over entire surface allowing some of the paper to peek through.

4. Add various colors of acrylic paint over the gesso.  Be careful not to cover up all the paper or gesso. Remember to do this on the other side of the ornament.

5. Take the snowflake stamp and stamp in blue over the paint.

6. Add more gesso and paint to blend everything together.  Spray with golden glimmer spray to add some sparkle.  I used a script stamp with cognac ink to randomly stamp in the background.

7. Glue ribbon or cording around the edges of the ornament.

8. Stamp one of the verses from the Joy and Peace Stamp set. Tear a border around the edges.  Swipe cognac ink over the torn edges to create a distressed look.  Stamp the script stamp over the background randomly in cognac ink.  I used a feather to embellish before gluing down the verse.

9. Bundle a few feathers together and tie with ribbon.

10. Glue down the bundled feathers as well as any other embellishments you want to add.
This completes the first side.

      11. I made a rosette from the paper.

    12. I stamped the dove from the Joy and Peace stamp set in black ink and fussy cut the image.  Layer the stamped image on top the rosette and the ornament is complete!

Tutorial Tuesday: Inspiration Challenge

Welcome to our second Tutorial Tuesday Inspiration Challenge! For the last several months, our Design Team has been bringing you some wonderful tutorials to help with your stamping and crafting projects. Occasionally (usually about once a month) we have a Tuesday open and decided it was the perfect time to have a challenge and invite you to play.

Our Inspiration Challenge is easy: It's an open challenge - you can create any project in any medium you like, as long as it's based on one (or more!) of our Tutorials. The only requirement is that you use a current stamped image from our store.

You can find all of the Tuesday Tutorials here on the blog or you can download them free from our store.

Please use at least one image from the Red Rubber Designs store as the focal point in your project. Upload your challenge submission to the Red Rubber Designs Flickr Group using the challenge tag TT0812 (that's TT [as in Tutorial Tuesday] zero812 [as in August "08" and the year "12"]). Also, please tell us which Tutorial you used as inspiration!

See our Challenge Information page for details on the general challenge rules and how to upload your challenge submissions to our Flickr Group.

Deadline for submitting is Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Midnight CDT.

A $10.00 gift certificate to the Red Rubber Designs store will be awarded ONE randomly chosen participant in our Tutorial Tuesday Inspiration challenge!

Can't wait to see what our tutorials inspired you to create!

Tutorial Tuesday: Stamped Cork Pin

This is Paula-Kay with a tutorial to show you how to make a Christmas pin using cork paper and stamps.  I’ve used Red Rubber Designs Ginger Joy for the stamp.

You will need some supplies to begin: Palette Noir ink pad, patterned cardstock (I’ve used Cha Cha patterned cardstock), a piece of Cork paper, a piece of Kraft cardstock, Ginger Joy stamp, white Liquid Applique, scissors, two pearl accents, a pin back.

Step 1:  Stamp Ginger Joy on the piece of cork, and also on the piece of Kraft cardstock, and the neck bow on the Cha Cha patterned cardstock.

Note:  Stamping on Cork paper is just like stamping on cardstock.  You can color it and cut it, mount it on background cardstock.

Step 2:  Cut out the image stamped on the cork and the Kraft cardstock.  Cut out the bow stamped on the patterned cardstock.

Step 3:  Glue the cork image to the Kraft image (which will be the backing).  Then glue the bow in place on top the cork image.

Step 4:  Next add a little pink to the cheeks with a marker (I used a Copic marker) and glue two pearls (or buttons or jewels) on the front.

Step 5:  Add white Liquid Applique to the icing on the image.

Step 6:  Heat set the Liquid Applique with a heat gun until it puffs up.  (Don’t overheat or it will burn).

Step 7:  Turn Ginger Joy to back side and glue the pin back in place using strong glue (E6000 works great).

Step 8:  As a last minute thought, I decided to add some small google eyes to Ginger Joy.

And now your Ginger Joy pin is finished.  What a fun little project to wear during the winter and Christmas season or to give as a gift.

You can download a FREE PDF version of this tutorial in the Red Rubber Designs store!
