Ancient Map Coasters - A Tutorial

These Square 4" Black Coasters from Red Rubber Designs, are so fun and easy to transform for the world traveler in your life! Six come in a pack, but for this tutorial I only used four.

Supplies:

Torn Pieces of Tissue Paper (Kraft, Brown, and Aqua)
Prima Clear Gesso
Old Credit Card
Distress Collage Medium Vintage
Foam Brush
Black Permanent Ink
Antique Bronze Embossing Powder
Rafia
Scrap of Kraft Paper

Directions:

1. Use an old credit card to apply a medium to heavy coat of Prima Clear Gesso.

2. Once dry, use a foam brush to apply a coat of Distress Collage Medium Vintage, and quickly adhere torn pieces of tissue paper to the coasters. Again wait for it to dry, and do the same to the back, overlapping the tissue paper from the front. Once the back is dry, give the front another coat of Distress Collage Medium.

3. Use permanent black ink to stamp the coasters using the Ancient Map Background Unmounted Rubber Stamp.

4. Finish the edges with antique bronze embossing powder. Copper would look great too!

5. Stack coasters, tie with rafia, and add tag, made with the Sweet Goodies Squares Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp. Simply use the same tissue paper technique on a scrap piece of kraft paper, emboss the frame with antique bronze, and stamp the sentiment with red ink. Then attach an eyelet to feed the rafia through.

Here's a closer view of one of the coasters!

I hope you'll give this a try!
