Americana Stitched Flower Tutorial

Here in America we recently celebrated our independence, and I wanted to create something that wasn't necessarily for 4th of July, but easily could be. So I came up with these Americana Stitched Flowers, that look like they came right off of the quilt on this card that I made for a very dear friend.

And what's more American than denim, which I cut and threw in the washing machine to get the frayed edges, machine stitching the ends. All of the papers are Bo Bunny's older Anthem collection, and made the perfect spot to stamp the Rocking Chair, which I colored with markers, paint, and mists. For the sentiment I combined blue and red ink with A Thousand Thanks stamp set.

I used black embossing powder onto silver paper to make the scissors with the Sew Thankful stamp set, which is one of my faves! I did some more embossing, along with paper piecing and fussy cutting, to make the spools of thread using the Sew Thoughtful stamp set. Here's a closer look at the scissors and flower.

To make the flowers, I used my Cricut Expression with the Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge, but if you don't have that you could always use any type of star shape. The red flower was cut at 2" using flower #30, and the blue one was cut at 1 1/2" using flower #1. At this point you could also stamp your flowers, using whatever design you'd like, then distress the edges.

Now use your sewing machine to stitch around the edges.

Then curl the petals up and glue the blue flower to the red one. I used a brad for the center, but you could also use some bling or a button. I hope you'll give them a try!
