Tutorial: Stamped Alpha/Text Background

I decided to break out my stamps and inks to create this layout for Lynda's Inspirational #137 ~ Just Text Me! I've been wanting to do a technique like this for awhile, so I thought I'd share my process with you.

I started by lightly misting some white cardstock with black, dark blue, and medium blue mists. Then I randomly stamped letters all over using the Alpha Grunge Set stamped with Versa Magic ink (Aspen Mist).

Then I repeated the process, stamping with Palette Ink (Cote d'Azure). Now you can start to see some dimension with the letters.

Next I used black ink to stamp the smaller letters and numbers using Background Soup, which is one my favorite stamps sets, and really is a must for anyone who likes to dabble in mixed media.

Then I used Palette Ink (L'Amore Red) to stamp the polka dots using Build-A-Background, which I also used to stamp the stars on the lightest blue cardstock. I created the checkerboard on red cardstock using Background Blocks.

You can consider it finished  now, or go a step further like I did, and add some masking with stencils and more ink. I added So Splattered and  Running Stitches. I also used the Alpha Grunge Set again to make part of my title, coloring the letters with some Prismacolor markers.

I hope you'll give this a try, and feel free to put your own spin on it! It really was fun to make!

  1. Awesome! It seems like stampers in general aren't using alpha stamps as much in favor of alpha stickers, but I LOVE them and couldn't see myself not having several alpha stamp sets in my stash :) I love how you used them here, thanks for the inspiration!
