Tutorial Tuesday: Create Handmade Tea Roses

Today I am sharing how I make my favorite roses. I receive so many compliments whenever I use them. Many have asked me how I make them so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share these easy but pretty little flowers.
Supplies Needed:
Tea Dye Distress Ink
Sizzix Tattered Pinecone Die
Die Cut Machine
Tweezers

Gather the above supplies

Cut Patterned paper to fit flower on die and run through die cut machine.

These are my die cuts. The far left one is plain card stock that has been sprayed.

Distress the edges of each die cut with distress ink. Ink script stamp with ink and stamp on top of die cut.

Take die cut and gently fold between each petal.

Starting from the outside of flower, take tweezers and roll the flower. The pattern should be on the inside of roll.

Roll the flower up tight.

Release the flower and allow the petals to relax.

Once you loosen the petals and get the flower to the shape you want, apply a little bit of glue to the bottom two petals. Press the base of the flower into the glue. This will keep the center and surrounding petals secure.

Use the tweezers to curl the petals down.

Here is what the flower looks like with a few of the petals curled.

The finished product. Add these beauties to your stamped card or project.

Tutorial Tuesday: Creating a Background with Liquid Applique

Do you have Liquid Applique sitting forgotten in a drawer or cabinet?  Did you know that you can use it to make great looking leather-like backgrounds?

Supplies needed:
  • Marvy Uchida Liquid Applique
  • Rubber Brayer
  • Matte or non glossy cardstock
  • Heat tool
  • Waxed paper or palette paper (I save the paper from the Creative Cling)

Step 1
Squeeze out some liquid applique on your waxed paper.

Step 2
Roll over the liquid applique with the brayer so that it covers  all the way around the brayer.

Step 3
Roll the brayer over your cardstock in all directions until covered to your liking.
Now clean your brayer immediately. You do not want the liquid to dry on your brayer.

 Step 4
Dry with heat tool.

Step 5
Enjoy the beautiful leather-like surface that you have just created.

Your background is now ready for stamping with Archival Ink or a dye based ink.

Here is my finished card with the applique applied to brown cardstock.

BLOG HOP AND CONTEST
Do you remember those fun days when you were allowed to draw a special grid on the sidewalk with chalk and then spend hours playing hopscotch?  If you are not familiar with the game, you can pick up a little history and info here.

You are going to play hopscotch with us as you hop from one blog to the next. The catch is to leave your footprint (comment) at each blog. One blog has the "stone" (but we're not telling which one!) A winner will be chosen by random draw from everyone who left a footprint (comment) on that blog (scotch). If chosen, what will you win? You'll win our Spotlight Stamp set Wonder and Joy.

Contest will end Sunday, February 10 at midnight CST.

Here is your "hopscotch grid" to follow - we are happy to have 3 members of the Sunshine Mail Design Team play along with us today:

Tutorial Tuesday: Paper Piecing with Stamps

It is time for another Tutorial Tuesday at Red Rubber Designs!

This pictorial tutorial shows how simple it is to paper piece using stamped images and patterned cardstock or paper.

I am using a February Featured Stamp set from Red Rubber Designs called Teddy Bear Tea Party.
The artist of this set, Maggie Swanson, illustrates children’s books. She has created some very cute images that make a nice scene.

The patterned cardstock I am using is from the Catelynne collection. I’ve gathered my supplies first – paper, stamps, Kai 4” scissors, Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and acrylic blocks.

The next step is to stamp the parts of the images on the patterned cardstock that I want to paper piece.

Then I stamped the images on a piece of white cardstock that I will use on the front of my card.
In addition I decided to pop-up several of the images, so I stamped them also on another scrap piece of white cardstock. I will later cut those images out.

Now I cut out all stamped pieces from the patterned cardstock that I plan to paper piece. Also I cut a background piece of patterned cardstock to use on the base of my card.

Then I colored the stamped images that will not be paper pieced. I used Copic markers, but colored pencils or water color crayons would also work nicely.

Then I put the card together with the paper pieced parts glued on top the stamped images. I popped up the bears and the tea pot to give more dimension, and also to get the bears closer to the table.

Supplies used in this project:

Catelynne Patterned Cardstock
Pink and white cardstock
Pink ribbon for bow
Memento Tuxedo Black ink
Foam mounting tape
Kai 4” scissors
Acrylic blocks
Copic markers: E11, E13, E15, E333, E35, E37, E70, E1, E77, YG41, YG45, B0000, B14, B16, R000, R81, R83, R85, YR24

Thanks for stopping by to see this tutorial.

You can download a FREE PDF of the tutorial at the Red Rubber Designs Store.

Have a fun stamping day!
